When the Master of the Hunt unleashes his warband, the cwn annwn are responsible for tracking its prey, weakening the target with their terrifying howls and rending fangs.
A hellhound is roughly the size of a large wolf, with fur that ranges from grey to black, sometimes shifting from one to the other seemingly at random. They have pointed, swept-back ears and eyes that glow an eerie green in the darkness (a hellhound never suffers penalties due to adverse lighting conditions). Their powerful jaws are filled with dual rows of vicious, serrated teeth that inflict extremely painful wounds. Although they are strict carnivores, a pack of hellhounds never consumes the prey they have been commanded to track…at least, not until they are given permission to do so.
Special Abilities: Hellhounds are creatures of night and shadow: the darker it is, they harder they are to damage. They have a TN to be hit of 10 in full light (including daylight), 15 in dim lighting, and 20 in total darkness (use the lighting conditions described in the Montaigne sourcebook as a guideline). The Host is generally unleashed on nights with a new moon; with very little ambient light, they are almost always at a TN of 20 on such nights, unless their victims manage to build (or find) a campfire or some other significant lighting source.
Like wolves, hellhounds are pack hunters (roll a single exploding die to determine the number of hellhounds in a pack). If multiple hellhounds attack the same victim in the same Round, reduce the victim’s TN to be hit by 5 for each additional attack, to a minimum of 5. Thus, if the TN to hit is 25 for the first hellhound, it will be 20 for the second, 15 for the third, and so on.
In addition, once per Scene the alpha male of a pack may unleash a terrible howl. Any mortal (even a mortal with Sidhe blood) who hears this howl must make an immediate Fear Check; hellhounds are considered to have a Fear Rating equal to half the number of animals in the pack, rounded up. Any penalties imposed on those failing this check last until the end of the Scene.
